OM3D · Optical Metallography 3D
The independent Windows application for 3D optical metallography.
What it does
Build 3D grain structures from a folder of serial-section micrographs or a multi-page TIFF. Align and preprocess images, detect grain boundaries, segment grains, link slices in 3D, and measure grain size and shape.
Export labeled volumes (TIFF, NRRD, MetaImage, NIfTI), measurement tables (CSV) and optional meshes (PLY/STL). Inspect meshes in OM3D or use results in ImageJ, 3D Slicer and ParaView.
This standalone application is separate from the OpticalMetallography3D plugin for Dragonfly. It needs neither Dragonfly nor a separate Python installation.
Install and upgrade
Windows 10/11, 64-bit. 16 GB RAM recommended; about 300 MB for the program plus space for your images and results.
- Sign in to Standalone Apps with your ImageFly email and access code, then download the OM3D installer.
- Run the installer and select English or Simplified Chinese. Administrator privileges are not required. Default location: %LOCALAPPDATA%/Programs/OM3D.
- For upgrades, close the installed OM3D and run the newer installer. Your settings, license and data are preserved.
OM3D currently has no code-signing certificate. Windows may show a publisher or SmartScreen prompt. Check the published SHA-256 before running a downloaded installer.
Apply online and activate
- Submit a license request on Standalone Apps. If you do not have an OM3D activation key, leave the challenge blank and check your request for the administrator's reply.
- Enter the OM3D activation key in the OM3D activation window. Generate and copy its challenge. The ImageFly website access code is a different credential.
- Paste the challenge into your website request. After approval, download the .om3dlic file and choose Import license in OM3D.
OM3D licenses are bound to a computer and have their own expiry. Prototype Apps licenses cannot activate OM3D. Renewing the website account does not renew OM3D; submit a new standalone request for renewal or a replacement computer.
Manual, example data and help
Press F1 or open Help > User Manual inside OM3D for the complete parameter and workflow guide. Use File > Open sample data to start with the bundled example. Help > License and activation shows the license status.
Preferences, logs and sample data are under %LOCALAPPDATA%/OM3D. Results stay in your chosen output folder. The program includes Chinese/English license agreements and third-party notices.
